A MISTAKEN VOICE: LISTEN TO HEAR AND KNOW THE VOICE YOU’RE LISTENING TO
Romans 10:17 17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
The very foundation of our faith comes through hearing God’s word; therefore, we can emphatically say that hearing God’s word is essential for the building of our faith and the foundation for our lives. In doing so, it is wise for the listener to pay close attention to what God’s message has to say, especially regarding peace with one another. We don’t just listen to hear YHWH, God’s Word but make the connection of hearing it with the action of doing it, being obedient and not turning back to doing that which is contrary to His will. But allowing God, in the name of Jesus, to give you wisdom so that when trials, troubles, and tribulations come, you will be able to stand; you have heard the righteous voice of God and built your faith (house) upon The Rock, Jesus. (Isaiah 28:23 23 Give ye ear, and hear my voice; hearken, and hear my speech. Psalm 85:8 I will hear what God the Lord will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: but let them not turn again to folly. Matthew 7:24-25 24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. Luke 11:28 28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it).
God can speak to us in various ways, including through the Bible, prayer, nature, the Holy Spirit, and even through our conscience. (Job 33:14-15 14 For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not. 15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;)
In the Bible there several passages which speak about us, hearing the voice of God versus the voice of the enemy. To clarify the ones who belongs to and of whom God is speaking of hearing His voice and following it, we can look at John 10:27. God says, “My sheep (those who love Him, worship Him in truth and spirit; keeping His commandments) recognize and hear His voice, He know us, and we, out of faithfulness, belief, and trust follow Him. God’s voice encapsulates Life. The voice of the enemy will come alongside the voice of God, to make it sound as if God is speaking trying to persuade you to do things contrary to the LORD’s will. It may sound tempting, perfectly fine to the ignorant spiritual ear but one thing for sure behind that voice is death. To be able to distinguish between the loving voice of our Father and the hateful destructive, voice of Satan is the reason we must watch and pray about everything. So that we will not get all bent out of shape when troubles come our way. Because those who are truly children of God, understands His messages and are given insight, through the Word (Jesus) as to why things are happening the way they are and what we are to do about it. (John 10:26-28 26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand). (John 8:47 47 He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God).
As we move into our day, we realize how relevant listening for and to God’s voice is in every moment and aspect of our life. YHWH, God, used and is still using, His voice to create and communicate with all living things; changing and rearranging as He sees the need to do so. With a command, for His purpose, He will allow some to rise and others to fall. Majestically and powerful does His voice move throughout the land and over the waters speaking to those who will. Through the powerful forces of nature we see and hear His awe-inspiring voice tell us to stop, start, come, or be still. God’s voice causes man and that which is of nature to bow to His will or stand to His won’t. God’s voice is so great that we can see from the 3 boys Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, in the fiery furnace, that when God stepped in, (I like to think that with His Word, Jesus, the voice of God) made the flames behave. In the Book of Daniel (chapter 3). Much joy, peace, comfort, clarity, and most of all love, comes with God’s voice. And when problems need to be solved, when we listen to hear Yashuah, Jesus’ voice, saying come, the power and majesty of God’s voice, like that of thunder and nature, is revealed through His speaking. And when He speaks, His voice shakes the trees of retribution, the situations of Satan, and rid all that is contrary to His Word (Voice) from the land. (Psalm 29:3-9 3 The voice of the Lord is upon the waters: the God of glory thundereth: the Lord is upon many waters. 4 The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty. 5 The voice of the Lord breaketh the cedars; yea, the Lord breaketh the cedars of Lebanon. 6 He maketh them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young unicorn. 7 The voice of the Lord divideth the flames of fire. 8 The voice of the Lord shaketh the wilderness; the Lord shaketh the wilderness of Kadesh. 9 The voice of the Lord maketh the hinds to calve, and discovereth the forests: and in his temple doth every one speak of his glory).
You know that the majority of people (even those professing to be a child of God) develop an attitude toward God when troubles, trials, and tribulations comes their way. They turn off their hearing which decerns God’s voice from the devil’s. They refuse to stand still long enough to hear Him commanding the waves (crisis, chaos, and confusion) to behave, and the wind (anyone or anything contrary to His will) to stop blowing; causing destruction and devastation. This bring us to the fact that the last thing any of us should do is to harden our heart when God is speaking to us.
God speaks to us in and through different avenues. It is without question that His primary way is through His Word, the bible. In His Word we get revelation and a clearer realization as to Who God is and His plan for our lives. He also speak to us through the men of God, (pastors, preachers, reverends, ministries, etc.). Also, through an individual or those who would be leaders by way of dreams and visions; His voice is often subtle and may not be immediately recognized by those it is intended for. If we look with goodness in our eyes we can see His spoken word in His creation; the beauty of the sky and the grandness of the earth and all that it houses. Or hear it in a babbling brook which seems to speak to the natural wilderness of your heart. (Psalm 19:1-2 19 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. 2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge). It is also possible to hear it in a friend or stranger who relates to a mutual situation or circumstance; serving as lessons, warnings, or opportunity for our growth, both spiritually and naturally. God’s word can also be spoken through inner impressions, gentle nudges or promptings; they are usually subtle and require discernment. But we must be, at all times, open to hear His voice and understand this, that whatever God need and want you to hear, you will hear it one way or another. Because every word God utters is for our good. (Job 33:14-18 14 For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not. 15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed; 16 Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction, 17 That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man. 18 He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword).
In order for us to become and stay the righteousness of God, we must open our heart’s ear to hear the voice of God and obey and not be as the children of Israel, rebellious and disobedient; it won’t take us forty years to get around this mountain (of conflict, chaos, and confusion we have been thrown in) but the eleven days intended. To reap the continued benefits for our mind, heart, body, and soul we must listen to God’s voice and not become dependent upon our own word, will or way, being stubborn, (this is referencing the Israelite’s listening to voices, other than YHWH, God), while in the wilderness and being tempted by the subjects thereof. (Hebrews 3:7-8 7 Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice, 8 Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:) GOD’S GOT IT NO WORRY NO FEAR.
